In order to work as a network administrator of any company, you have to learn how to manage the Windows 2003 server by passing one of its core exams known as Exam 70-290.

A little history will tell you that this was introduced on August 28, 2003. This can be the first exam you can take or the last since there are about 5 that you have pass in order to be Microsoft certified.

As a candidate for Exam 70-290, you should be able to do the following tasks like maintaining and managing physical drives. This means making sure that the basic drives of the computer are well managed. You should also be able to diagnose and resolve issues regarding hardware settings and hardware driver upgrades whenever it is needed.

Exam 70-290 also examines your capability when it comes to managing users and groups. You should be able to manage local, roaming, and mandatory user profiles as well as create and manage this very easily.

Identifying the scope of the groups is also one of the responsibilities that will be assigned to you. You should also be able to identify and modify the scope of the group and find domain groups where a user is a member.

You should also be able to conduct group working by managing the account using the Active Directory and its Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in, which will allow you to import user accounts from other computers.

Sometimes the computer and user accounts could break down. It is your responsibility to troubleshoot and reset it if it is needed. If it is the user accounts that have a problem, you should be able to diagnose and resolve account lockouts. The candidate should be able to diagnose and resolve issues related to the user account.

Part of the Exam 70-290 will also test your ability in troubleshooting terminal service, diagnosing and resolving issues that are related to terminal service security and its clients’ access to this terminal service.

Configuring the system permissions of Windows 2003 allows you to change the ownership of the files in the computer. This will be important when the unit will be given to someone else for use.

You should also be to manage and implement Disaster Recovery operation should the server or a computer unit crash. This is done by restoring the data from shadow disk volumes and backup systems.

Windows 2003 based servers is very critical these days especially for large companies who depend on their computers to do their work. In most offices, they need to have their computers connected to one another to make the sharing of files easy and worry free.

Because of this, companies need to have somebody who knows how to maintain a Windows based software to make sure that it doesn't break down, which causes many problems for us.

If you want to have this job, you must be able to take the Exam 70-290, which has about 45 to 70 questions and completed in 2 hours and 15 minutes. The passing score is 700 out of a 1000 so you should remember your training and review very well.
